Asia Argento and Ashton Whitty

Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is a group of actors and she has also been working in both fields. At the age of nine she made her acting debut in Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. The role she played was the main one in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared as a part of Michele Savi's 1989 feature film The Church. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby as the Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is where Asia started to really take off. It allowed her to progress from the roles of young females to more sophisticated and mature characters. It was received well at the Cannes International Film Festival. She's made three films with her father, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome, and Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she's made together with her father, the others being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's deeply absorbed and aggressive style of acting was well-loved by Giuseppe Picioni's Condannato A Nozze. In 1993, she co-starred in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di Via in which she portrayed Arianna a physically handicapped girl. This was an intricate and difficult part that earned it the David di Donatello award for the best actress . Patrice Chereau directed her in Queen Margot the film, in which she was a major character. In 1995 she worked with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again earned her a David diDonatello and the Grolla oro. Asia began directing short films around 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive In 1996, she directed a document about her father; and Abel/Asia in 1998, about the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was awarded by the Rome Film Festival. The year 1999 was the year that Asia began her film-directing career by directing Scarlet Diva (2000), in which she was the leading actress and author of the screenplay. The film released May 2000, both in Italy as well as throughout the globe. The film was awarded a prize at the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Brooklyn. Anna Lou was born in 2001, after having directed several music videos. The year 2002 saw Asia as a character in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of a number of short stories, which have appeared in prestigious magazines.
